Vessel

Fomes spp.

Natural edge and shape, hollowed to be both a vessel and retain the very elements that keep it looking like a tree.

The shape was made on my lathe, then hand hollowed to follow the form of the tree.
By combining these making methods I'm trying to create a vessel that maintains the tree itself in the final shape of the object, but also reflects design choices made to make wild natural objects fit into our very human spaces.

Hollowing by hand takes time... and grazed knuckles, but look at the results.
I can follow the curves of the branch, and allow the natural tree's growth shape show through.
Ironically it takes more work to keep the natural in the final piece.

Hight 32cm
Diameter 16.5 at its widest point.

(As piece has uneven edges all measurements are aproximate)
